HMRC has tightened the regulations for importing goods into GB
HMRC has tightened the rules for imports with immediate effect.
For goods with a value of above €6,000/ £5,400, the EU exporter MUST have a Registered Exporter (REX) number and include it in the statement of origin. If you import goods into the UK and your supplier does not quote their REX number on the invoice and the invoice does not have a valid statement of origin then customs duty will be payable when you import.
Furthermore, the REX number ensures that the goods will be treated as “Preferential Origin” and the importer will not have to pay any duty on these goods. If the commercial invoice does not have the REX number, duty will be charged to the Importer.
Duty can be paid via your DAN (Deferment Account Number) if you have one or we will have to pay the duty and charge it to you.
